HISTORY OF BARANGAY BASAC
Brief History
Long time ago, this place was known to its coolness because of its several wet and muddy places (basa ug halos lapokon ang tanang dapit). Thus, the people were encouraged to cultivate the land into “basakan” or rice fields. Besides of the “basakan”, the place was also abundant of the palm called “saksak” which was used by our great grandparents as their standard roofing materials. Although the place was known of having the “basakan” and “saksakan” yet it has no name at all, until then, people started to call the place Basak after its resources, the “basakan” and “Saksakan”
Geography
Basac is located at the middle point of four barangays, Bonga in the eastern part, Catamboan in the western part, Pisong B in the southern part and Bintangan in the northern part.
Political Sub-division
The barangay before was divided into six zones until such time it was Changed into puroks: Purok-Orchid, Purok-Santan, Purok-Dancing Lady, Purok-Sampanguita, Purok-Dahlia and Purok-Daisy.
Topography
The place was situated at the middle of the mountain, traversed by a concrete road starting from the municipality of Larena down to the municipality of Maria. A provincial road is also injected at the mid-point of the barangay going up to barangay Cang-apa down to the municipality of Lazi.
Climate
The Climate condition in this place depends in the two seasons That we have. Cool into very cool during rainy season and hot into very hot during summer.
Ethnic Group
Like other places, Basac is mixed up with people coming from the different provinces who got married in this place and resides therein, like from Bohol, Palawan, Layte, Cebu, Basilan, Cotabato, Nueva Eciya, Ilocoss Region, Bicol Region, Pagadian City and Even Metro Manila and other Provinces of Mindanao.
Dialect
Some of the residents are Tagalog Speaking until now but most of them are using the Cebuano/Visayan dialect.

Population
For CY-2023, Basac has a total population of 1,066 coming fromthe 220 households children and adults.
Labor Force
As of today, unemployment is still a problem but there are also professionals employed in government institutions and private firms. while others are employed outside the country. Some are self-employed like small business but farming remains the main source of living.
NATURAL RESOURCES
Land Area
Barangay Basac has a total land area of 140.3013 hectares more or less.
Natural Resources
This place is very much blessed of having high grade manganese and first-class limestone.
Forestry
Until now, people remain very supportive to the National Greening/Urban Greening Program.
FINANCIAL INSTITUTION
Local Finance Institution
Basac has a Multi- Purpose Cooperative that provides goods, services and assistance to members through loan to finance their livelihood projects and agricultural farm inputs.
Local Government Institution
The development programs/projects in the barangay are funded out by its 20% BDF, 10% youth fund, MOOE, Capital Outlay, Province and Municipal Aid. But for how many years because of too much political interventions we were not able to avail congressional assistance.
SOCIO ECONOMIC PROFILE
Agriculture
Most of the farmers generate income from coconut, livestock/ production, swine fattening, fruits and vegetables production. Usually, their farm products such as rice and corn are just for human consumption.
Manufacturing
One household in our place coming from Calamsig, Sultan Kudarat is very famous in “amakan making” and it is their main source of income while other also generate income from “sibit making”
Commerce
Basac has 33 Sari-sari Stores with Business Permit to operate, 3 Videoke Shops, 1 Internet Caffe, and the Women’s Association that produces Squash Bread and Squash Fries.
Infrastructure Facilities
The barangay has complete Elementary and High School including the junior and Senior High, Barangay Waterworks System, Barangay Health Station Funded by DOH RO VII with 11 Barangay Health Workers assisting the midwife and the NDP in the delivery of basic health services and one BNS, Barangay Hall for the officials to hold office, Basketball Court for the youth to develop their ability in sports and a multi – purpose pavement for the farmers to dry their rice and corn. Lately a standards Day Care Center was constructed funded by DSWD RO VII.
Social Services
There are many services offered in the barangay, like Health & Nutrition, Education Culture & Sports, Day Care Services. Although there are weaknesses in these areas, the Barangay Officials tried their best to deliver the social services for the benefits of the barangay populace.
